General Overview

We decided once again to organise the Day Full of Local Volunteering Activities, marking the second “edition” of this event, but extended and upgraded.

How can you imagine our event? We gathered nine organisations so that young people had all the information in one place. They prepared a short, fun activity that described the work of the organisation and the role of a volunteer within it. The activities of the organisation were presented by either a staff member or a young volunteer. We also made the event more attractive by presenting the opportunities available to young people abroad (we had a stand with Erasmus+, ESC, DiscoverEU, and The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award). A young student from Litomyšl, who had participated in several youth exchanges, shared information about her experience.

This way, we blended local and foreign opportunities because we believe that young people can start volunteering locally and then move the experience abroad or vice versa.

Thanks to excellent cooperation with local schools, 160 secondary school students attended the event. They were split into groups, received a “playing card”, and with this card, visited all the organisations. Each organisation prepared a short game or quiz for them, and they were given a small-themed prize at the end.

We organised this event together with Eurocentrum Pardubice (Eurodesk multiplier) this year and we prepared a fun route through Litomyšl in the Actionbound app, which took the participants to several places in Litomyšl related to volunteering and Erasmus+, ESC, or DiscoverEU. From the answers, we drew three winners who received a small prize.

We printed posters with the Eurodesk logo. The Eurodesk network was presented in the Actionbound app, on Facebook, Instagram, and in various articles we published on our website and in the local newspaper.

Thematic Category Correspondence

(50 points max)

How does this initiative (project, event, material) correspond to the thematic category

Our Volunteer Centre is constantly looking for different ways to reach young people and inform them about volunteering in Litomyšl as well as opportunities abroad. This year, we included an interactive route through Litomyšl using the Actionbound app, which was accessible to anyone from the public and provided information about local volunteering and opportunities for young people abroad. Participants who came personally to our event received a “playing card.” With this card, they visited all the present organisations. Each organisation prepared a short game or quiz for them. The participants were motivated to visit the organisations because when they did, they received a small-themed prize at the end. We also created Time to Move badges (buttons) for participants with the Czech Eurodesk website included.

Impact

(30 points max)

How did your project impact young people / your community?

We believe that our event had a great impact on young people. Most of them were not aware of local volunteering opportunities or opportunities abroad (as it is not commonly taught at school). We were able to reach them directly, talk to them, and give them opportunities to ask questions. We were also able to reach the teachers and inform them about local volunteering opportunities and opportunities abroad, establishing long-term cooperation with some of the schools.

Young people who did not have the opportunity or were not interested in attending the event in person could receive the information through the Actionbound app (for some youngsters, this impersonal way might be more comfortable). We were able to informally reach around 210 young people between 15 and 17 years old (160 through the event and 50 through the Actionbound app).

P.S. A few words about our town, Litomyšl – it is located about 150 kilometres east of Prague. It has around 10,000 inhabitants, 4 elementary schools, and 4 high schools.

Green Focus

(10 points max)

Did your project have any green focus and/or did you implement any eco-friendly measures when organising it?

The activities were either online or, if not, then we just printed a few posters. We used lots of information signs from last year, so we did not create more waste than necessary. We also had a few leaflets with QR codes that young people could scan to receive more information online.
