What is it about?

“Eurodesk Through My Eyes” is a thematic, youth-led chain of activities planned to raise awareness of European mobility opportunities by revitalizing youth information into a more game-changing, experiential, and participatory learning journey. That chain was initially designed in two complementary stages. Both of the stages started with a very impactful beginning, namely photo journaling, as a tool for self-expression and storytelling.

The first stage focused on the cultural and historical heritage of the city through guided photojournalism routes. The second stage shifted attention to nature hidden in the city, directing young people to green areas to make them realise environmental sustainability, biodiversity and the balance between nature and urban life. Across both stages, these experiences were transformed into collaborative digital boards on Canva, highlighting digital literacy.

By combining photography, city discovery, and AI-supported digital storytelling, young people were encouraged to slow down and observe details hidden in the city like everyday human interactions and express their perspectives through visual narratives. In addition to its emphasis on mental well-being and self-awareness by creating dedicated time away from digital distractions and encouraging participants to focus on their surroundings, the project went beyond practising photography skills and aimed to help young people reconnect with their city through carefully designed routes that link cultural and natural heritage with European mobility opportunities.

Following the creative phases, youth information sessions including the Europass CV and motivation letter were held at the youth center, the university and outdoors. The information seminars represented the final steps of completing the pieces of the puzzle of reflection and action.

Throughout the project, sustainability was integrated through walking-based routes, the use of public transportation, and digital tools, reinforcing environmentally responsible practices and active citizenship. Office-based follow-up activities strengthened the local youth network and actively integrated participants into Eurodesk’s reliable youth information ecosystem.

How is this project relevant to the specific category?

“Eurodesk Through My Eyes” directly corresponds to the Creative Youth Information category by transforming youth information from a passive format into a game-based and youth-led learning process. Rather than delivering European mobility information through traditional sessions alone, the project used photography to turn the city into a playground where young people could notice overlooked and often unseen details in their everyday urban environment, alongside AI-supported digital storytelling as a creative tool to make young people mentally and physically active during the process.

Photography was used as a game-based method, turning urban routes into interactive missions in which participants were encouraged to observe overlooked and often unseen details in their everyday surroundings. This playful yet reflective approach increased motivation, curiosity and active participation, allowing young people to engage with youth information in a memorable way. By encouraging participants to explore their city through photojournalism routes and reflect on their experiences via collaborative digital boards, youth information became embedded in self-reflection and peer-to-peer interaction. Youth information was placed in everyday public spaces, making European opportunities visible where young people already are.

This out-of-the-box approach enabled young people to connect and analyse local realities with European values and mobility opportunities in a meaningful and accessible way. By combining art, technology and non-formal learning methods, the project ensured that youth information became interesting and engaging for young people from diverse backgrounds. This innovative format positioned participants not only as information receivers but also as co-creators.

Through further office-based activities, participants gained direct access to opportunities via the Eurodesk network. During these follow-up activities, participants took part in an intercultural cooking session, embracing the European Union’s core value of unity in diversity. Shopper bag design workshops and speaking clubs were conducted by both local and international young people living in Ankara, emphasising inclusiveness.

What was the impact of the project?

“Eurodesk Through My Eyes” created a multidimensional impact on young people by transforming the way they access, perceive, and engage with youth information and European mobility opportunities. At an individual level, participants developed increased self-awareness, confidence, and motivation through photography as a reflective and expressive tool. They strengthened their sense of belonging to their city while gaining a clearer understanding of European values such as diversity, inclusion, sustainability, and active citizenship. Dedicated time away from digital distractions contributed positively to participants’ mental well-being and focus. Moreover, it enhanced digital literacy, creativity, and critical thinking skills through AI-supported storytelling and collaborative digital boards. Young people were not passive recipients of information; instead, they became co-creators of youth information by linking their personal narratives with concrete European opportunities. This approach made European mobility programmes more accessible and memorable. The project strengthened the local youth information ecosystem by connecting public spaces, the youth centre, the university and our office as one of the Eurodesk contact points. Through follow-up office activities, participants were actively integrated into the Eurodesk network, ensuring continued access to reliable youth information. The public visibility of the photo routes and digital outputs on social media also contributed to raising awareness among the wider community.

Did the project have any green focus?

Yes, environmental sustainability was integrated into both the concept and implementation of the project. The photojournalism routes were designed as walking-based activities and supported by public transportation, reducing carbon emissions while encouraging young people to experience the city at a slower, more mindful pace. By exploring green urban spaces such as the Botanic Park, participants were guided to observe biodiversity, urban nature, and the relationship between environmental protection and everyday life.

The project promoted digital practices by using online tools such as Canva for collaborative digital boards, minimising material waste. Photography itself was used as a tool to raise environmental awareness, encouraging participants to notice often overlooked natural elements within the urban environment. We can say that the event empowered young people to adopt more sustainable behaviours and environmentally responsible citizenship.

How did you ensure Eurodesk's visibility in your project?

Eurodesk’s visibility was ensured through both physical and digital means. Eurodesk promotional materials were distributed during field activities, youth information sessions, and office-based follow-up activities. In addition, Eurodesk logos were integrated into photojournalism route brochures and presentation slides, ensuring continuous visibility.
