We have different workshops, debate club, eco club, music club, trainings on leadership, teamwork, fake news and social media, volunteering, communication, and more. We have a youth council since 1998 and the young people organize events according to their needs with our support. Title of the project

European week

Start date:

April 18, 2022

End date:

May 31, 2023

Source of funding:

We organize the European week every year with our own budget, in 2022 we had a small grant from Eurodesk that was 850 BGN which is equal to 435 euro. We used that budget for 57 T-shirts with the logo of Eurodesk and the logo of European year of youth.

Objectives:

European week is a campaign that consists of different events and happens during May. We organize "We rule together" - an event at 9-th of May - the day of Europe during which young people from different schools take for one day the place of the main people in the city - the Mayor, the Governor of the region, the Director of the Regional Department of Education, Director of Regional department of the National social security institute, and so on. In the second half of the month we organize an event called "European fair". It is one day during which all our partners present with workshops their work, activities and organizations in the center of the city. The focus on the event is the European opportunities. We invite as partners NGOs that work on European projects with young people, Regional Informational Center on European projects, the office of one of the members of the European Parliament, The local commission for fighting human trafficking, The university department for Erasmus+ student mobilities, and so on.The main objective is to get all the information of the opportunities at one place so the people can access it easily in a funny and entertaining way. Also during We rule together campaign we give the young people the chance to meet the official representatives of all the institutions and to get to know them and their work better in order to make easier the process of youth participation after when we work with the youth council. Also we had painting competition...

Why does it correspond to the thematic category:

It may seem that it is not really creative, but for us and our youth it works great. Our city is one of the most segregated in terms of ethnic groups. We have a huge Roma community, a large karakachans group, armenian community, turkish community, jewish community, Bulgarian muslim community. During We rule together campaign we manage to put on governing positions young people that have never even been inside the building of the municipality. This is for us a way to put them in a situation that seems impossible for most of them. They learn a lot, gain self confidence, get knowledge on how the institution works and are inspired to take part in other activities connected with citizenship an youth participation after that.European fair is a colorful, entertaining way of the organizations and institutions that work in the field of European activities and youth work in Sliven to present their work in front of all the people. We organize with them different workshops for the audience, exhibitions of their work or projects, everyone can come, listen to nice music, talk to them and have more information on Europe, the European institutions, projects, organizations and so on. In our Youth House stand we make a quiz with Time to move card game and give presents to those who manage to answer correctly. This way we can explain to them in a non-formal way what is Eurodesk and what kind of opportunities for studying, training, travelling and working they have in EU.The painting comp

The impact the initiative had on young people and the local community:

During the European week in may we have many thing happening. With "We rule together" initiative we manage to reach a lot of young people that usually will not have the courage to step forward. We give them wings to continue developing their skills and knowledge, because after the initiative they usually return for another workshop or training that we organize during the year or they become members of the youth council and are able to organize events themselves. On the other hand we have all the institution's representatives, who can get to know the young people, explain to them what they work exactly and this opens the doors for other events together. They are more open for working with the youth council and more willing to hear what the young people have to say on different topics, because they already know each other. With the event "European fair" we manage to give the community of Sliven the chance to meet all the institutions and organizations that work in the European field at one place. A lot of people do not know where to ask their questions about different European funding projects or they do not know what exactly the institutions are doing. This is a way to bring them together in a funny, non-formal way so they can communicate and exchange information. During the painting competition "Europe in colours" we received more than 300 paintings from young people around the region. We focused their attention on European sites and gave them the info on all the opportuni

How it ensured the visibility and promotion of Eurodesk:

During the whole European week we promote Eurodesk in different ways. Our T-shirts have the logo of Eurodesk and we ask the representatives of the institutions to wear them during "We rule together", the Time to move game cards, we have a flag of the Youth House with Eurodesk logo and Time to move logo that we put during the European fair as part of the decoration of the stage. We start the preparation in April and all the time we publish stories and posts in the social media to promote what is going to happen. We publish in local online news websites. After both of the events we publish photos in social media and online websites for news. We published all the paintings of the young people that were rewarded at the painting contest Europe in colours. During the European fair event we made an exhibition outdoors around the stands of all the organizations so everyone can see the paintings. Also during the event we gave the rewards in a special ceremony with the Deputy Mayor of Sliven Municipality with department for Economical development and European projects. Also we had an Instagram campaign in which every day during the European week we were publishing different story of a young person that has been a participant in Erasmus + training or youth exchange or EVS or student Erasmus. The young people were from Sliven or were foreigners who were EVS volunteers in the Youth House during the years. In each post we used the #EurodeskBG to ensure we promote Eurodesk network properly

How it respected the green principles:

We are an organization that is trying to reduce our footprint for many years. We communicate with all the partners online so we can reduce the number of printed paper. We make informational and promotional materials in such a way so they can be used again and again. Brochures are not our target, so we make openers, keychains, t-shirts, textile bags, bluetooth sound speaker, usb flash drives, pens and pencils to promote Eurodesk and Youth House. We are a partner of an NGO that has a campaign for collecting bottle caps and returning them to recycle, so at every event we organize, if there are bottles of water, we collect the caps. We prefer to use cups that are not single use, so we invite everyone to come to our office with their own bottle. Usually the lack of budget and our creativity are the reasons we make our own materials, signboards.
