General Overview

EuroQuest is a game created by Lucas Allebrod and Hannah Hennings during their volunteering with the European Solidarity Corps (ESC). It is inspired by “Scotland Yard” and aims to raise awareness about sustainable mobility in Europe in a fun way, focusing on eco-friendly transportation such as buses, trains, and boats.

To create the game, Lucas and Hannah first conducted thorough research on public transport networks connecting major European cities. They then designed the game board and tested it with different audiences, including young people, youth professionals, and board game enthusiasts. Around 200 people participated in these tests, which helped to improve the clarity of the game rules.

The game was presented at various events, such as ESC volunteer meetings, workshops at local missions, and international mobility forums. It was also tested within Eurodesk structures in Brittany, where Lucas was hosted, as the CRIJ Bretagne coordinates a network of 21 Eurodesk centres. The Eurodesk logo appears on the game board, and the game has been featured in regional media, including an interview on France Bleu Bretagne and an article in the Infojeunes Bretagne Eurodesk newsletter. EuroQuest was also presented at the national Eurodesk seminar.

EuroQuest is available for download on the website, an essential portal for young people and professionals interested in international mobility. It has also been submitted to the regional platform for youth projects.

Thematic Category Correspondence

(50 points max)

How does this initiative (project, event, material) correspond to the thematic category

This project is part of a creative youth information initiative, as it is a game entirely designed and developed by young people themselves. Inspired by the game Scotland Yard, they imagined and created the entire game board. The logo and visuals were also created by the young participants. The rules of the game were written after several testing phases to ensure their clarity and accessibility to a wide audience. Additionally, these rules were translated into English, German, and French to reach as many people as possible.

Impact

(30 points max)

How did your project impact young people / your community?

The EuroQuest project has had a significant impact on young people, as it was designed by young people, for young people, as well as for youth professionals. The game was tested with European and French volunteers as part of their civic service. It was also trialled with various audiences hosted by Eurodesk Youth Information structures, local missions, youth centres, social centres, and other organisations dedicated to youth activities. These tests included French-speaking youth, as well as European and international participants welcomed in Brittany.

The CRIJ Bretagne, which coordinates around 70 Youth Information structures, including 21 labelled Eurodesk, introduced EuroQuest to the Infojeunes Bretagne network during regional meetings, as well as during Eurodesk regional events. The game was also highlighted at major gatherings bringing together other youth professional networks, such as international training sessions and Brittany’s youth mobility events (COREMOB).

To ensure accessibility, Lucas and Hannah developed EuroQuest in French, English, and German. Moreover, the game was designed for easy use, with all materials available for free download and printing on the En Route Pour Le Monde website.

Green Focus

(10 points max)

Did your project have any green focus and/or did you implement any eco-friendly measures when organising it?

The eco-friendly dimension is at the heart of the EuroQuest project, promoting sustainable mobility and green transport options connecting major European cities. Lucas and Hannah, committed to responsible consumption, designed this game as an educational tool to highlight eco-friendly alternatives such as trains, buses, carpooling, and water transport. Their experience exploring Europe’s rail network with an Interrail pass (won through DiscoverEU) inspired them to rethink mobility across the continent. Following this approach, all their travels in Brittany to test and present the game were organised sustainably, favouring carpooling, public transport (trains and buses), and even boats for visits to the Breton islands. EuroQuest thus embodies a sustainable vision of mobility, encouraging young people to travel in a more environmentally friendly way.
