General Overview

The “Orienteering in Europe” event took place at the Jūrmala Youth Initiative Center, offering young participants an opportunity to deepen their knowledge about the upcoming European Parliament elections, mobility opportunities, European youth goals, and values.

In teams, the participants engaged in an orienteering activity in Kauguri Park, completing tasks at various checkpoints. Each participant had the chance to test their knowledge and learn something new.

The second part of the event featured informative activities, and the winning team was awarded a prize.

The event was held as part of the Eurodesk network campaign “European Youth Week”, aiming to promote youth participation in the European Parliament elections through engaging activities.

How does this initiative (project, event, material) correspond to the thematic category

The goal of the event was to enhance young people’s awareness and knowledge about the European Parliament and the upcoming elections, as well as to promote youth mobility opportunities in Europe. The initiative aimed to inspire young people to travel across Europe, gain diverse intercultural experiences, and meet new people in various environments. During the event, participants took part in a team-based orienteering game in Kauguri Park, where they completed tasks and gathered new information using Euroclasses modules. Instead of traditional lectures or presentations, the event engaged young people through an orienteering activity, making information about the European Parliament elections, mobility opportunities, and youth values more accessible and engaging. By incorporating a team-based challenge with checkpoints and tasks, the event creatively presented complex topics in a fun and dynamic way, encouraging active participation. To achieve these objectives, the event featured various checkpoint tasks, utilising both digital skills and non-formal education methods, such as games and interactive activities. At the end of the event, the teams gathered at the Jūrmala Youth Initiative Center, where they took part in a quiz to assess their newly acquired knowledge and retention of key information. Correct answers were explained, winners were announced, and the event was evaluated through an interactive opinion-sharing game.

By the end of the event, participants left with new insights, stronger connections, and motivation to engage in European initiatives, making a lasting impact on youth in Jūrmala.

Green Focus

(10 points max)

Did your project have any green focus and/or did you implement any eco-friendly measures when organising it?

We prioritised outdoor activities, such as the orienteering challenge in Kauguri Park, which not only encouraged physical activity but also allowed participants to engage with nature in a meaningful way. For the results, we used digital tools for information sharing and task completion, which significantly helped to eliminate paper waste. Additionally, we relied on a whiteboard for interactive activities and team discussions, ensuring that no paper was wasted while keeping the event engaging and eco-friendly.
