What is it about?

Who will win the title of Masters of Europe? Test your knowledge in a quiz about the European Union and European culture. Travel packages and other themed prizes are up for grabs!

The quiz for students of the University of Pardubice across all faculties took place on Wednesday, 12 November 2025, at 6:30 p.m. at the Áčko Pardubice student club.

Participants had the opportunity to test their knowledge in six rounds of questions on EU economics and politics, important milestones in EU history, European culture, the current presidency country (Denmark), and, above all, European opportunities for young people in the EU.

The quiz contained a total of 60 questions and was divided into six thematic areas: European culture, EU history and Czech membership in the EU, travelling in Europe, The EU on social media, Denmark in the EU, and The EU budget and funds. Each correctly answered question was worth 1–3 points.

Pre-registered teams had to consist of at least two and at most six people, and all team members had to be students at the university. The team captain also had to be a student at the university. Light refreshments were provided on site, and admission was free.

The quiz was organised by Eurocentrum Pardubice in cooperation with the University of Pardubice. The event took place as part of the university celebrations of the 1989 Velvet Revolution and the fall of the communist regime in Czechoslovakia. The event was supported by the EURODESK network and took place as part of the autumn Time To Move campaign and on the occasion of the 35th anniversary of the European Youth Information Network EURODESK. Valuable prizes from the EURODESK network were prepared for the winning teams.

In the end, 9 competing teams and 60 participants took part in the event.

How is this project relevant to the specific category?

The activity was classified under Creative Youth Information due to its form and structure. It was a quiz created in Canva in the form of a PowerPoint presentation, which used additional tools such as AI programmes, audio recordings, graphics, and overall design processing. The poster, table signs, and scoring system were also created using Canva. For students, this was an extracurricular activity in their free time, through which they learned interesting and necessary information about the EU, the Czech Republic’s membership in the EU, the functioning of the EU, European culture, and mobility in Europe in an understandable and playful way.

The quiz included music recordings by well-known European performers, interesting works of art by European artists, traditional dishes from different countries, traditional festivals, and other cultural events held in Europe. Emphasis was also placed on the diversity and variety of European culture. However, the quiz also focused on facts and information about the European Union and important figures associated with the history of the emergence and development of European integration, as students had to recognise the faces of these figures.

Information about the practical impact of the Czech Republic in the EU, thanks to support from European funds, was also included, allowing students to learn about various interesting projects in the region through pictures. An artificial intelligence graphics programme was also used to recognise various European cities using logically composed and understandable images.

Students were certainly motivated by the prospect of winning interesting prizes provided by all the organisers and partners of the project – Eurocentrum Pardubice, the University of Pardubice, and EURODESK Czechia. These included scratch maps of Europe, pocket card quiz games, and other EURODESK goodies or promotional materials. Playful leaflets with QR codes and links to all European opportunities were also prepared.

What was the impact of the project?

The impact on young people is significant, as many students learned about the event not only on the University’s website, but also at events related to the celebrations of the 1989 Velvet Revolution and the end of the communist era in the country. The quiz was a thematic continuation of these student activities, with regard to the start of the era of democratisation, the Czech Republic’s accession to the EU and other international organisations, and the current opportunities for young people in Europe that follow from this. Students expressed their interest in continuing this activity. Eurocentrum Pardubice is therefore planning another round of the student quiz with new questions, which will again include European mobility with additional information on individual EU projects. This will allow the information to reach other groups of students. A competition between regional universities or secondary schools could be organised. The organiser is also considering holding this type of activity at secondary schools in the Pardubice Region so that students aged 16–19 can also learn about European mobility.

Did the project have any green focus?

Green and eco-friendly focus in the project is significant because of the online format of the quiz presentation. Participants were registered via the entry form on the organisers’ website and via an information poster with QR code, where the competitor’s contact details, including the name of the team and the number of participants, were sent together. All information materials about the project, such as posters, invitations and rules, were created using Canva and sent via email to all potential competitors. The University PR department was informed about the project by email, and promotion of this project was ensured on the University of Pardubice website and Facebook. The results of the competition were published on the website and social media. A minimal amount of materials was printed during the project, too. The prizes for the winners, who will travel not only within Europe, were made from recycled and sustainable materials – bottles, bags, and diaries.

How did you ensure Eurodesk's visibility in your project?

A large amount of materials and leaflets with information about the Eurodesk Network were prepared for the event, as well as about individual European mobility programmes and opportunities for young people in the EU, such as Erasmus+ youth exchanges, European Solidarity Corps, and the DiscoverEU programme. The Eurodesk logo, the Eurodesk 35th anniversary logo, and the Time To Move campaign logo were displayed at the event via banners and signs on tables with the names of individual teams. The logos were also included in the quiz presentation and on the event flyer.
