Title of the project

EUROPlantacjA

Start date:

1/8/2022

End date:

10/11/2022

Objectives:

The aim of the EUROPlantacjA project was to raise environmental (benefits of caring for the environment and benefits of planting trees) and European (promotion of European programmes, opportunities for EU-funded youth projects and intercultural integration) awareness among young people and the local community. Project activities were implemented in Rybnik, Piekary Śląskie and Częstochowa. The project called EUROPlantacjA consisted of organising an event in each partner city, during which:1. an action of planting trees in the urban space was organised, under the auspices of EURODESK. In each city (Rybnik, Częstochowa and Piekary Śląskie), 15 trees were planted (45 in total in three mini groves). The tree-planting campaigns were held in cooperation with the City Offices of the organisation's partner cities. The planting groves were marked with plaques. Young people from schools in each town, representatives of town halls, municipal institutions and NGOs took an active part in the event. 2 Workshops on environmental issues were held in each city. Workshop topics: "The importance of planting trees and taking care of the environment today". Nearly 300 people attended in all cities. 3 In addition, each partner organised the following activities in their city during their event:Stowarzyszenie Impuls conducted a workshop on European themes in Częstochowa, FEIO in Rybnik, and MDK 2 Youth Center in Piekary Śląskie organised a city game.

Why the project was: empowering young people, adapting to changing realities, or thinking out of the box:

The project was unique for several reasons. Firstly, it was carried out in cooperation between 3 Eurodesk points involving 3 different local communities, and allowing the synergy of ideas and effectiveness of activities and the use of a scenario of 3 actions prepared jointly. Secondly, the project involved, on the one hand, young leaders who prepared the event and accompanying activities in the form of thematic European outdoor games and the planting of trees - small European groves drawing attention to the need to implement the demands of the European Green Deal, and on the other hand, young people - participants in the event who, through participation in the game, educational workshops and tree-planting action, were able to learn more about the proposals for young people in Europe (projects, development, education) and become more climate-conscious. Each of the organisers and participants was more aware of European and environmental issues after attending the event and had a sense of individual impact on positive change around them.

How the project was inclusive:

The European dimension of our events was obvious: all information and project materials contained logos and information about the funder and Eurodesk Polska. The topics of the accompanying events, both games and tree planting, were related to the European Union, European youth information and the European Green Deal, the points of the field game contained tasks and context bringing the above-mentioned information closer. The event took place as part of the activities and accompanying events of the European Year of Youth and was also featured in Time to Move.An article about the project written by Eurodesk youth leader Piekary Śląskie and EPM correspondent was published in the Eurodesk quarterly and on the EPM portal. All participants received gadgets in the form of reflectors with a QR code leading to the event.Information about the events was published on the partners' websites and in social media: https://www.facebook.com/profile/100063580183239/search/?q=europlantacja3 films were made documenting 3 events in 3 cities, published on the Youtube channel. Information about the events appeared on the official websites of City Halls.

Green aspect:

The very idea of the EUROPlantation project is fully ecological. In total, we planted 45 trees in three cities, which contributed to increasing reforestation and tree cover and reducing the effects of climate change. Planting trees is not only a useful activity, but also an enjoyable one with long-lasting effects. Residents living in the immediate vicinity will have more oxygen and a place to walk in the shade. In turn, the trees will produce oxygen which is vitally needed by everyone. During the tree planting itself, we used reusable materials. However, the pots in which the trees were purchased were donated to the city and will be reused. We did not use plastic bottles, only bottles, filter jugs and paper cups. We separated waste throughout the event. The planted trees will be cared for by representatives of city institutions and residents.

Impact:

Results of the project: conducting 3 tree planting actions in three cities of Piekary Slaskie, Rybnik and Częstochowa, in which we planted 45 trees; about 300 young people participated in the workshops; organised 3 local actions: workshops on environmental issues and two city games; we created 3 videos, one from each tree planting action; increased youth awareness of tree planting and ecological behaviour; strengthened cooperation between Eurodesk points from Rybnik, Piekary Slaskie and Czestochowa; increased knowledge of the activities of the point; increased knowledge of opportunities for youth development and participation in various local and international projects; enriching the urban space with more trees. The impact of the project can be divided into several groups. The first group is the youth, who had the opportunity to participate in tree planting workshops, to learn all the techniques. Participate in workshops on environmental issues, that is, increase their knowledge on topics related to projects, the European Union and the many opportunities they have. They got to know better about the activities of Eurodesk. The second group is the residents living in the immediate vicinity of the tree planting sites. All of them were very pleased with the actions that were carried out and were eager to talk to the planters and were happy that they would have some shade and the opportunity to follow the growth of the trees.
