About organisation:

We are Local Action Group who works in near-by Riga, Capital of Latvia, area (Olaine/Marupe region). One of our priorities within development of the territory is youth, their involvement in civic processes, so we promote also opportunities what gives EU, working as Eurodesk Info point. We work together with local Youth centres, and also support/promote LEADER projects, which are aimed to youth as well.

Source of funding:

The main source of funding was Eurodesk grant. It was organised in the corporation with youth centres from both cities: Olaine and Marupe

Objectives:

It was a part/ activity incl. in European Youth Week to inform youngsters about mobility opportunities, about possibility to change the world and become active - in everyday life - to spend time in the nature/forests, and also as the active citizens - travel, do volunteering work, realise their own projects.Activities included: Organising the event and attract the youngster to it (incl. organising the transportation); organise hike in the forest/ cook together with youngsters (they cooked under the supervision of the chef Renars Purmalis)/ informal discussion with ambassador of Eurodesk info point / collecting feedback from youngsters.Result: the youngsters get inspiration how to spend time in the forest, they had some strong vision how to be a part of team and work together, and they got vision how to become a part of Solidarity Corp.

Why does it correspond to the thematic category:

The initiative correspons to the thematic categoru Creative Youth Information:- the event was based on the issue: FOOD,- it was made in nature, in the evening (the daytime when youth like to go out)- it was lead by well-known Latvian chef Renars Purmalis- the information about European Solidary Corp was provided in informal, discussion way.

The impact the initiative had on young people and the local community:

The young people were included in the activities all together, they had need to corporate - so they established friendship also within regions/ youth centres. Some of them started to visit the youth centres after the activity, getting know each other.Local community has been impact to attract young people to the area, has opportunity to meet with the representative of local community NGO's. Also the chef Renars Purmalis is a resident of the community - so it makes more welcome young people to be involved in the local community activities in the future.

How it ensured the visibility and promotion of Eurodesk:

The publicity was generally provided in social networks - Facebook and Instagram. The promotion was done also by local youth centres - in their Whatsapp groups, in their spaces. The logo was provided everywhere.The posters were provided in the local municipality stands in the streets too. During the event the visibility and promotion was provided also with the practical Eurodesk souvenirs to all youngsters who participated. And during the discussion about Eurodesk provided services and European Solidarity Corp the information was provided; the Eurodesk information point representative had also T-shirt with Eurodesk logo.

How it respected the green principles:

The activity was in general was organised in the nature friendly way: what has been taken to forest, all was brought back also (no garbage has been left in forest bins!).The common transportation was organised for the young people to get to the starting point/and back. The part of young people come by bike - the meeting point was chosen convivence to majority of the youngsters.The products which were provided from the chef also were planned based on healthy, biological principles.
