General Overview

The project “Valgamaa noored Euroopasse” (01.07.2023–31.12.2024), funded through the Erasmus+ programme, aimed to increase access to DiscoverEU opportunities for young people in Valga County, particularly those with fewer opportunities.

Over the course of the project, 15 young participants took part in three 14-day European trips, during which they developed their language skills, cultural awareness, and personal growth. These experiences provided practical learning opportunities, including budget management, cooking, and intercultural communication.

The project was implemented by MTÜ Täpne Silm, a youth organisation in Valga County that specialises in international and local opportunities for youth, including those with special needs. The organisation also focuses on teamwork, adventure education, and training programmes.

The project results were significant: participants gained confidence in international communication, developed essential life skills, and learned to appreciate cultural diversity. Additionally, the project increased awareness of Erasmus+ opportunities, inspiring more young people to participate in future mobility programmes and contribute to their communities.

MTÜ Täpne Silm promoted environmental sustainability by using public transportation during the trips and enhanced project visibility through social media engagement. Moving forward, the organisation plans to expand DiscoverEU and other Erasmus+ projects to involve more young people and strengthen international partnerships.

During the planning and preparation phase, MTÜ Täpne Silm conducted meetings where it introduced the Erasmus+ and DiscoverEU programmes, provided practical guidance on finding international opportunities, and encouraged young people to use Eurodesk resources.

Thematic Category Correspondence

(50 points max)

How does this initiative (project, event, material) correspond to the thematic category

This project aligns with Inclusive Youth Information, as it targeted young people with fewer opportunities who may not have had access to international experiences otherwise. By providing structured, supported mobility opportunities, the project ensured that these youth could benefit from international learning and cultural exchange.

Breaking barriers

  • Many participants came from rural areas or had limited exposure to international programmes. The project eliminated financial and logistical obstacles, allowing them to explore Europe.

Personal and social development

  • The trips helped participants develop self-confidence, problem-solving abilities, and independence, empowering them for future educational and professional opportunities.

Peer-to-peer learning

  • Upon returning, the young travellers shared their experiences with their communities, inspiring more youth to consider Erasmus+ and DiscoverEU programmes.

The project was designed to be accessible, with guidance and mentoring provided throughout, ensuring that participants felt supported and engaged. By prioritising youth who might otherwise miss out, the initiative significantly contributed to making European mobility opportunities more inclusive.

  • They overcame social and personal barriers, which helped them become more independent and self-sufficient.

For the local community:

  • Participants became role models, sharing their experiences and encouraging others to apply for future mobility opportunities.
  • The project strengthened collaboration between youth organisations and local authorities, creating a better support system for young people.
  • Awareness of Erasmus+ and DiscoverEU programmes increased, making it easier for future participants to access these opportunities.

Overall, the project helped young people to broaden their perspectives, develop valuable life skills, and take initiative in their personal and professional growth.
