It was a national-level project aimed at young people with fewer opportunities (economic obstacles, coming from rural areas etc.) in 2 regions of Latvia – Vidzeme and Pieriga. As 2025 was the year of voluntary work priority for Latvian youth work, the project aimed to support and develop volunteering skills and involvement in volunteering among young people, especially with fewer opportunities. During 6 months of implementation, 300 young people participated in 2 trainings, developed and carried out their own local initiatives, and took part in 10 rural workshops about voluntary work.
The project was aimed at young people with fewer opportunities, and a strong emphasis was placed on providing them with chances to learn and participate regardless of their everyday obstacles. Transport was organised to ferry young people to the trainings, and they were offered financial and mentoring support to carry out their initiatives in their local spaces according to local needs. The 10 workshops about volunteering and opportunities took place in ten rural locations, ensuring that more young people from rural areas could access the information and opportunities.
For the final event – a youth conference – local youth workers arranged transport for participants from across both regions to the conference venue and back, with all travel expenses covered. During the activities, care was taken to ensure that everyone felt included and was in a safe space. Young people were also given the opportunity to become members of the youth organisation Creative Minds for Culture, join the members’ WhatsApp group, and gain first-hand access to up-to-date information about youth opportunities.
