The Educational Project of the Escola Profissional de Aveiro (EPA) has the following fundamental commitment: to serve well the students, their families, and employers. This commitment results in an interior feeling, shared by the whole School Community, and also by the Educational Community in general, about the need to do more and better every day; wishing that the education of the person, their personal and social skills, be the active and first principle for the construction of any technical or professional knowledge.
Title of the project
App ‘Ajuda SOS’
Start date:
21/9/2021
End date:
5/5/2022
Objectives:
The Rescue Team of the Vocational School of Aveiro, with 11 years of existence. Represents an innovative and pioneering idea in education in Portugal and has as its main objectives to provide first aid to victims of accidents and sudden illness in the educational community, ensuring their stabilization, mobilizing the emergency means only if strictly necessary, and on a small scale, fight a possible fire inside the facilities of EPA with the first intervention means available until the arrival of external means of help. With the growth and profitability of the project, as well as bringing its elements closer to the respective targets, the app 'SOS Help' will be created, which will allow everyone to share the current state of health/symptomatology with the Rescue Team and request the necessary advice. The app, designed for the Android operating system, will work as a triage system that will allow the Rescue Team to identify illness and provide advice adjusted to the situation. Through this remote help, it is expected that the contact with the Rescue Team will be intensified. If the situation justifies it, the follow-up can be done in person at the medical post. Through the app, the Rescue Team will also share with its beneficiaries, at intervals to be defined, good practices to maintain and improve their quality of life and health.
Why the project was: empowering young people, adapting to changing realities, or thinking out of the box:
Mobile application that reports, in real-time, internal, non-emergent health problems, identifying the elements of the nearest first aid team and their skills in providing first aid. This is an innovative, pioneering, avant-garde, and unique idea in education in Portugal.
How the project was inclusive:
The project intended and intends to ensure and promote well-being and health for all elements of the educational community including stakeholders. Through this application, the stakeholders see the interest of the Rescue Team in the health problems reported, they are clarified in a clear way and will feel more comfortable, safe, and confident to seek this support again in the future. The development of the project was widely disseminated through the following channels: dissemination actions in schools and companies; Central Channel (social networks - Facebook and Instagram); Local/Regional Press.
Green aspect:
The project was developed always taking into account the SDGs - Sustainable Development Goals, otherwise, it would not make sense. The application focused essentially on Sustainable Development Goal 3 - "Quality Health" which aims to ensure access to quality health and promote well-being for all, no matter the age.

Impact:
Effectiveness and quickness in the communication of an accident/occurrence; Quick location of the nearest first-aider; Pre-triage made by the user; Early access by the first-aider to the necessary elements to provide help in a quicker and more distinguished way; Selection of the first-aider with the appropriate skills for the type of accident/occurrence; Possibility of sharing psychological and emotional problems in a confidential and individualised way.
