End date:

Objectives:

This project was initiated by the 2 Eurodesk coordinators of the regions Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes (France) and Lombardy (Italy). It has been noticed on both sides that the feeling of belonging to the European Union is very quickly eroded among young people and the impression of not being listened to does not encourage them to become aware of their European citizenship and does not encourage them to make their voices heard. They do not know how to access the decision-making processes and how to participate in the social life of their territory and their community. Concretely, it was a question of creating a path of education to information in order to encourage the concrete expression of the commitment. The collaboration of the 2 transnational networks allowed: to encourage the active participation of young people in democratic life; to encourage the debate on themes that concern youth policies- to take into account the word of the young people in the elaboration of the future political decisions which concern them; to know the Eurodesk network to accompany them in their project; to allow the Eurodesk multipliers to develop spaces of speech2 mobilities allowed 40 Italian and French young people to meet, exchange, test animation tools and share good practices. In collaboration with the multipliers and the decision makers, the participants thought about solutions allowing everyone to interact in a European and international environment and to be part of it.

Why the project was: empowering young people, adapting to changing realities, or thinking out of the box:

By receiving more detailed information on Europe and its functioning, the young people have better understood the possibilities offered by the European programs and participate actively in all the initiatives of participation in the democratic life. This project has allowed the development of innovative actions with and for young people in order to make them actors of their life path. The involvement of elected officials and decision-makers has made young people aware of the need to actively participate in their municipality's policies and has enabled administrators to establish direct contacts with young people in their region. The participation of the multipliers led to a better coordination and animation of the network of regional actors working on international mobility.Through different workshops, the young people were able to experiment with methods of public speaking and to encourage the emergence of local projects. Moreover, the exchange between the two international realities will provide :a better knowledge of the Italian-French civil society and in particular of the youth policies at the local, regional, national and European levels; a better knowledge of the Italian-French youth information system and networks from two different angles (one local and one regional); new skills and tools to inform young people, in particular on international mobility and youth and political dialogue; new skills in building projects at European level with foreign partners.

How the project was inclusive:

The project was initiated and supported by the Eurodesk regional coordinators, a part of the exchanges concerned the role and the missions of Eurodesk with the young people. We also had the opportunity to meet Eurodesk structures who presented their actions with young people on their territory. Please describe the results obtained, including the impact on the local community. Before and after the exchanges, meetings took place in the Eurodesk structures in Lyon and Sarrezo to accompany the youth initiatives that emerged from this project. Finally, the young people who took part in this experience acted as ambassadors to their friends and family to raise awareness of the role of Eurodesk in a mobility program.Several workshops were carried out following this project with other young people that we did not know and who heard about our actions.

Green aspect:

The 2 mobilities were done by train and by bus, and the travel during the meetings was done by public transport or by foot.We made sure that all participants were aware of the need to use responsible practices during the exchanges. The products consumed (meals, snacks) were provided by local partners who use short circuits. All the material used was made of recyclable material. Finally, one of the themes that the young people wanted to develop during the activities was sustainable development and the objectives of sustainable development.

How the project has given a European dimension to your event and ensured the visibility and promotion of Eurodesk?

Impact:

The basic principle from which we started is that only meeting and working together can support the awareness of having a role in society and the value that it brings with it.The general idea has been to organise experiential meetings between young people and administrators so that they can provide useful indications and create a toolbox that multipliers can use for the dissemination of these practices in their territories. Many young people express the need to want to participate actively in local and sometimes European political life, but the analysis of the needs of youth professionals has highlighted a gap in the capacity of operators to implement actions to bring out the voice of young people and encourage them to participate in civic life. The participation in projects that will have an impact on the political decisions that will be taken in the year to promote the active participation of young people, but also to support local administrators by allowing everyone to fully express their role.In this project, it seemed important to let the participants express themselves through the activities that seemed to them the most relevant to deliver the word and facilitate the exchanges. This freedom allowed for the emergence of innovative practices that made it possible to build a procedure for developing actions around structured dialogue in each territory.
