What is it about?

EUROPESA is a regional youth information and youth participation initiative that aims to bring European opportunities closer to young people, particularly those living in rural areas. Europesa is a physical youth-friendly space in Valga County that provides accessible, reliable and systematic youth information and supports young people’s active participation at both local and European levels.
The main objectives of the project are to increase young people’s awareness of European opportunities (such as Erasmus+, DiscoverEU and the European Solidarity Corps), to support young people’s initiative, participation and self-expression, and to create a sustainable youth information and participation platform that combines information, experience and guidance.
The primary target group consists of young people in Valga County, including those living in rural areas and young people with limited previous access to international opportunities. Indirectly, the project also involves youth workers, teachers and community leaders.
Europesa is continuously developed as both an organisation and a platform. Youth information events and info days are organised, European opportunities are introduced, and young people are supported in application and participation processes. Europesa includes an active youth group where young people can voluntarily participate, propose ideas and develop them together.
In addition, Erasmus+ and European Solidarity Corps projects are written and coordinated through Europesa, enabling young people to participate in international youth exchanges, learning mobility and solidarity projects.
The project operates without external project funding and is based on voluntary engagement. Europesa ensures 24/7 access to a physical space for young people. Methodologically, the project is based on non-formal learning, experiential learning and youth participation. Europesa is led by the Eurodesk Estonia representative in Valga County, whose role is to support and empower young people.

How is this project relevant to the specific category?

EUROPESA directly corresponds to the thematic category of youth participation and democracy by creating real and sustainable opportunities for young people to actively engage in decision-making processes, shape activities that affect them, and experience democratic principles through practice. The initiative moves beyond consultation and positions young people as initiators, co-creators, and active actors in their community.

Europesa includes active youth groups where young people can voluntarily propose ideas, take part in discussions, make joint decisions, and develop their own initiatives together. Young people’s opinions and proposals are taken into account when planning and implementing activities, strengthening their sense of ownership, responsibility, and shared decision-making, which are core elements of democratic participation.

In addition, several youth groups have used Europesa as a counselling and support space when developing their own initiatives. Through guidance and mentoring provided at Europesa, young people have prepared and submitted youth-led project proposals under the local youth council framework. This supports young people in navigating democratic structures, understanding local decision-making processes, and turning their ideas into concrete actions.

Europesa also strengthens youth participation by involving young people in the preparation and implementation of Erasmus+ and European Solidarity Corps projects. Participation in international projects enables young people to experience cooperation, solidarity, and democratic values in practice at both local and European levels.

The initiative is led by the Eurodesk Estonia representative in Valga County, whose role is to support and guide young people rather than make decisions on their behalf. This approach creates a safe and empowering environment where young people learn democracy through action, developing self-confidence, critical thinking skills, and active civic engagement.

What was the impact of the project?

EUROPESA has a multi-level impact on both young people and the wider community by increasing young people’s awareness, confidence and willingness to participate, while strengthening community cohesion. For young people, Europesa provides a safe and accessible environment where they receive reliable youth information, develop ideas and take an active role at both local and European levels.
The project increases young people’s awareness of European opportunities such as Erasmus+, DiscoverEU and the European Solidarity Corps and supports their participation in international projects, youth exchanges and learning mobility. Through individual guidance and mentoring, young people develop social skills, self-management, language competences and confidence to engage in international cooperation.
A significant impact of Europesa is its role in bringing together young people from different parts of Valga County. While young people often operate separately within local areas, Europesa’s activities involve young people from across the region, creating opportunities for collaboration and stronger social cohesion. Joint projects help build lasting connections between young people from different areas, continuing beyond project activities.
Participation in Europesa’s active youth groups and youth-led initiatives strengthens young people’s sense of responsibility, decision-making skills and understanding of democratic processes. Europesa places strong emphasis on reflection and meaning-making as part of learning. The Eurodesk Valga County representative has completed Euroguidance competence card training on multiculturalism and learning and work mobility in the context of career development and holds a higher education degree in community education and leisure-time activities. Based on this background, reflection workshops are organised at Europesa, where young people analyse experiences, learning outcomes and personal development throughout project activities and their wider life journey.
At the community level, Europesa functions as a regional hub for youth information and participation, reducing information gaps typical of rural areas and strengthening young people’s role in community development.

Did the project have any green focus?

Sustainability is integrated into Europesa’s daily practices and activities. The initiative promotes environmentally responsible behaviour by prioritising low-impact and resource-efficient solutions. Europesa operates mainly through in-person guidance and small-scale activities, reducing the need for large events and unnecessary resource use. Digital tools and online communication are preferred over printed materials whenever possible.
The physical space is shared and multifunctional, supporting efficient use of resources and encouraging reuse rather than consumption. International mobility opportunities promoted through Europesa, such as Erasmus+ and DiscoverEU, are accompanied by discussions on responsible travel, environmental awareness and sustainable choices.
In addition, sustainability is addressed through reflection activities, where young people are encouraged to consider the environmental impact of their actions and projects. By embedding green thinking into everyday youth work and learning processes, Europesa supports the development of environmentally conscious attitudes alongside active citizenship.

How did you ensure Eurodesk's visibility in your project?

Eurodesk’s visibility is ensured through Europesa’s daily activities and communication. Europesa operates as the Eurodesk local point in Valga County, and Eurodesk information is integrated into youth information events, info days and individual guidance sessions. Europesa uses dedicated Instagram and Facebook accounts to promote European opportunities such as Erasmus+, DiscoverEU and the European Solidarity Corps, presenting Eurodesk as a trusted source of youth information. A visual identity and logo inspired by European youth values were created. Eurodesk branding is visible in the physical space, communication materials and online channels.
