It forged a network of youths skilled in digital advocacy and facilitated a deeper understanding of active citizenship and sustainable development, leading to a cultural shift among Greek youth towards more active participation in societal and European affairs. Winning the award for Youth Participation at the Salto Awards 2023 was a testament to its profound influence on youth and local communities.

Why does it correspond to the thematic category:

nEU Citizenship seamlessly exemplifies the core values of the Youth Participation and Engagement Award, actively involving Greek youth in democratic processes and European community life. This initiative, distinguished by its award from SALTO in 2023, has effectively bridged the gap between young individuals and decision-making entities, fostering a robust sense of involvement and ownership. Through an array of innovative activities, including mobility events, climathons, digital advocacy training, and policy dialogues, the initiative has equipped over 300 young Greeks with the competencies to effect positive societal change. It has cultivated an environment where the opinions and contributions of youth are not only solicited but also valued and acted upon. The project's success in stimulating youth involvement in sustainable and civic initiatives reflects its alignment with the award's focus on active engagement. The participating youth, having been transformed into proactive citizens and influential peer leaders, continue to disseminate the principles of active citizenship and participation.Ultimately, nEU Citizenship underscores the award’s mission to honour initiatives that don't just call for participation but truly embed it within the framework of their operations, thereby setting a precedent for what genuine youth engagement can achieve in the context of European opportunities and democratic life.

The impact the initiative had on young people and the local community:

The impact of nEU Citizenship extended far beyond the immediate participants, leaving a lasting impression on the local community and stakeholders involved. The 311 participants not only acquired a skill set that spans media literacy, digital tool proficiency, public speaking, teamwork, and project management but also well-prepared for their future. At the community level, the project sparked a sense of youth engagement in public movements and sustainable development dialogues. Fostering a culture of civic engagement catalysed positive change, encouraging young people to take an active role in sustainable development and public policy dialogues. This enhanced civic engagement has acted as a driver of positive societal transformation, instilling the youth the confidence and capability to contribute to their communities. On a regional scale, nEU Citizenship underpinned Greek youth's role in shaping the trajectory of Greece within the European fabric. The initiative highlighted European values and priorities and fostered a sense of belonging to the wider community. The project's impact transcends individual development, creating a positive wave of change that resonates across various levels of society. Moreover, the project's reach extended to the digital realm, with over 14,000 impressions on social media platforms and active engagement from 1,392 individuals. This online presence not only amplified the project's message but also facilitated broader awareness.

How it ensured the visibility and promotion of Eurodesk:

The impact of Eurodesk’s visibility is evident in the increased awareness and understanding among young people regarding the benefits of mobility programs, fostering a sense of curiosity and enthusiasm for international experiences.Key activities such as the mobilities and the "State of the Union" provided dynamic forums for Eurodesk to engage with an audience eager for information on European mobility, sustainability, and digital innovation. During these events, Eurodesk was spotlighted as a resource for youth empowerment, offering insights into European opportunities and creating a dialogue with young people, policymakers, and community stakeholders. These interactions not only amplified Eurodesk's presence but also reaffirmed its commitment to facilitating youth access to international experiences. The collaboration of Youthmakers Hub with the University of Piraeus and local stakeholders in several cities was crucial in expanding Eurodesk's reach. This collaborative effort disseminated information about Eurodesk and EU opportunities through non-formal education, which resonated with students and young participants. The same applied to the participants in the mobilities who were exposed to a world full of opportunities. The project's proactive efforts ensured that Eurodesk's mission became a core element of the learning and engagement experiences, thereby offering Eurodesk a platform to expand its influence among young Europeans.

How it respected the green principles:

nEU Citizenship exemplified a commitment to Eurodesk Green principles, weaving sustainability into its fabric and aligning objectives with environmentally conscious practices. The initiative strategically cultivated a diverse network involving youth, decision-makers, and stakeholders, aiming to enhance public dialogue with a strong emphasis on sustainable practices. By educating participants on civic engagement within sustainable development and digitization, the project fostered an understanding of the intrinsic link between civic engagement and sustainable practices. The project took practical inspiration from Eurodesk’s guidebook “GREENING YOUTH INFORMATION SERVICES”. More concretely it used practices from chapter 3, thus “Policy Recommendations”, implementing practices from subchapter 3.1 “Quality youth information for all” and 3.2 “Participative approaches: Give a voice to young people”Eurodesk's sustainability principles became integral to the project, empowering Greek youth with tools and skills to actively participate in sustainable development, civic engagement, and EU priorities. The outcomes were transformative, as nEU Citizenship equipped youth with tools for active citizenship while fostering connections between youth, decision-makers, and CSOs. In revitalizing the public space and advocating for sustainable practices, the project emerged as a beacon for civic engagement and sustainable development, showcasing a commitment to Eurodesk Green principles.
